This is how I can help.
How can I help you?
I help clients with all sorts of legal issues - everything from the normal day-to-day stuff, to the kinds of interesting and sometimes strange things you might see on TV legal dramas.
Most of what I do breaks down into the following areas:
Employment Law
Got a new job? Lost one? Need some advice about your legal rights when it comes to your work or employees? I can help!
I advise and represent employees with all sorts of workplace issues, including:
-
Reviewing employment contracts
-
Reviewing severance package offers
-
Wrongful dismissal
-
Workplace harassment
I also give advice to employers who need employment contracts drafted or advice about hiring or terminating an employee, and workplace policies and problems.
I also conduct workplace investigations where there has been a complaint, and provide workplace mediation and consensus building workshops for all types of companies and businesses.
Civil Litigation
Civil litigation is a catch-all term that refers to any dispute that two or more parties have, where they're seeking either money, or for the other party to do or stop doing something. Civil Litigation covers a wide range of topics, and sadly, can sometimes be anything but civil for the parties in the dispute.
Some of the types of civil litigation I deal with are:
-
Contract disputes
-
Employment disputes
-
Real estate transactions gone wrong
-
Defamation
-
Business disputes
-
Professional liability
If you aren't sure if I can help, just ask! If I am not the right person to help you, I probably know someone who is.
Administrative Law
Headed to a tribunal? Not sure what a tribunal is? That's ok - I can help. Certain kinds of disputes are handled by tribunals, instead of by courts. That means that the processes are different, and so are the possible outcomes.
I help clients at different tribunals, including:
-
Human Rights Tribunal
-
Residential Tenancy Branch
-
Professional regulatory boards
Sometimes clients need help applying to review a decision from a tribunal. I can help with that too.
Human Rights Mediation
I am on the roster of mediators at the BC Human Rights Tribunal, and provide mediation services through the Tribunal's ordinary process.
For parties with a complaint at the BC Human Rights Tribunal, I provide private mediation services for a reduced rate flat fee outside the ordinary Tribunal process. This can allow parties to have disputes mediated without having to wait years for the Tribunal to provide a hearing date or appoint a mediator.

Residential Tenancy
Tenancy troubles? I help both landlords and tenants understand their rights and obligations in residential tenancies.
I help clients with all sorts of tenancy issues, including:
-
Drafting and reviewing tenancy agreements
-
Advising landlords and tenants of their rights and responsibilities under the Residential Tenancy Act
-
Representing clients at Residential Tenancy Branch arbitrations
-
Helping clients prepare for arbitrations
-
Judicial reviews of RTB decisions
For Realtors and Property Managers
For realtors and their clients, I provide fixed fee consultation services for people buying or selling tenanted properties, to make sure you understand your rights and obligations, and to discuss some of the common problems and pitfalls. Click here to book a consultation.

Legal Coaching and Unbundled Services
Maybe you need some help with a legal issue, but you don't want a lawyer to take on your whole case. Or maybe you aren't sure where to start, and just want some guidance. Some legal advice is always better than no legal advice!
I offer what is sometimes called "unbundled services" to clients who need some help but don't want a lawyer to take on their whole case. Unbundled legal service is where I take on a piece of a file for you, or help you with certain tasks. Maybe that means helping you draft a claim or ghost-write a demand letter. Maybe that means going to court just one time because you aren't quite sure what to do or helping you with legal research. We work together to figure out what you need and what you can do on your own, so you can save money and still get some legal help.
I also offer legal coaching to clients who plan to run most of their case themselves. Through legal coaching, I can help clients frame your case, learn where to look for resources, figure out how to present their case in court or at a tribunal, or whatever else will help you feel confident and empowered while still representing themselves.
Please note, we are no longer taking new Strata law clients.
Don't know what kind of legal advice you need?
That's ok! If you're not sure what sort of help you need, just ask. If I am not able to help you, I will do my best to point you in the right direction.
